Happy World Year of Physics 2005! What we've all been waiting for is finally here.
You're receiving this message because you signed up to be on the list at our website or at an APS, AAPT or other scientific meeting. This newsletter, containing information about the upcoming World Year of Physics 2005, is distributed approximately every six weeks.
1. Sign-up Deadlines: January 31, 2005
If you're a middle school or high school teacher, the deadline to sign-up for our classroom projects is January 31, 2005.
PhysicsQuest is our investigative hunt for middle school students.
High school students can team up with other students to Measure the Radius of the Earth.
Teachers guides will be online soon. If you've already signed up, you'll be receiving information very soon.
2. International Launch Event in Paris: Physics for Tomorrow
"Physics for Tomorrow" will take place January 13-15 in Paris, and will be open to the general public. It will aim to capture the attention of the international press and media, so that events and celebrations organized around the world throughout the year will attract public and media attention.
3. Physics Enlightens the World
In the World Year of Physics 2005 as many people as possible should get the feeling to be part of a great physics community spanning the whole globe. “Physics enlightens the world” is an endeavour to achieve just that: A world-wide relay of light to commemorate the 50th anniversary of Albert Einstein’s death on April 18, 2005.
4. Physics Across the World International Poster Competition
A poster competition for students aged 10 - 16 years to mark the World Year of Physics in 2005. Students can create their own colourful posters to show how physics applications makes their lives better and has a positive impact on their everyday lives.
5. Get Inside a Physicist's Head! Only on the Quantum Diaries Website.
Who travels the world in search of the unknown? A pirate? An international spy? No! A physicist! Quantum Diaries will follow the lives of scientists from around the world as they live the World Year of Physics 2005. In their own words, in photos, blogs, and videos, it will tell the real-life stories of real physicists in real time. Launching Thursday, January 13!
6. WYP T-Shirts
World Year of Physics T-Shirts are now available. Look as smart as you really are in a WYP T-shirt.
7. 2005 Event Finder now online!
The WYP2005 Online Event Finder is now available. We want to hear about YOUR World Year of Physics event in the United States. Add your open house, public lecture, lab tour, or physics demonstrations to our online event finder so others in your area (and around the country) can find out about your events.
